This is unrelated to this post; but have you read Sophie's World: A Novel about the History of Philosophy, by Jostein Gaarder? Would you consider that a children or Young Adults book? And do you have any opinion on disseminating philosophy through books?

I have not read Sophie's World, but I do know it was marketed as Young Adult in the U.K. Have you read it?
As far as disseminating philosophy through fiction, I think anything that might pique the interest of a young reader in philosophy (or another related field) can't be a bad thing, don't you?
I read Sophie's World a few years ago; I found it fantastic, and it influenced me deeply. But I am unsure about its genre and appropriate readership, because many people consider it a lecture on philosophy, without plot.
I think disseminating philosophy through fiction would be good, if not great! Consequently, I am disappointed with the dearth of such books. But there might be reasons explaining or even justifying this dearth, such as a lack of reader interest, or the dangers of oversimplification or proselytization.
