I decided to check my husband and my kids' names--just for fun. (They all share a last name different from mine.) According to the test, there are 0 people in the U.S.A. with my husband's name, 0 people with my son's name, and only one with my daughter's.
Their last name is Russia's most popular--like Smith or something. Weird.

OK, 344 of me.
But...
I put in my first name and my long Polish maiden name (which happens to be my mom's name - both first and last), and it said zero. Which means it didn't pick up on my mom.
Hmmm...
Do you think the census is anti-Slav? Are we on to something here?!?
Maybe so!
184 of me.

Son-0
Husband-5 (And I think we know all of them!)
Me, if I use my "real" name--85! :)
Heh. I used to HATE IT that I couldn't find my name on stickers, mini license plates and keyrings.
Aaaaand, I'm pretty well liking that now. It's odd to me how I loathe acknowledging that there might be other people sharing my name. There was ONE girl in Illinois who matched me first and last, but happily she's either left the U.S., or their census information is off. (We may have differed in spelling, too.) I went to grad school with a girl whose first name is the same as mine, but she hates it and goes by her middle name. So, I'm safely listed as zero, even though it's not true.
Kelly,
I tried with my Polish maiden name and my Italian married name. Both came up 0. I guess there is no such person as moi!
6 of me, 106 of my husband (who has a different last name).
Wow--184, 85, 106! Those are some high numbers.
Elaine: We've established the census doesn't like Poles, but Italians too?
Tadmack: I *heart* your first name. I think it is beautiful.
Leila: 6 is a great number--rare, but not alone.
I came across this site a while back and thought it seemed a little fishy, since it claimed all my friends with unusual names didn't exist! This time, I read the fine print: "All numbers estimated based upon statistical and demographic data from US Census Bureau." If you click on "Accuracy," you find out more, including this: "About 10% of all responses were not included on the list because they appeared too few times. So, uncommon names are not represented on the list."
In other words, this site deals only with statistics, not real human beings, and even then it doesn't do it very reliably.
It says there are five people with my name, but I don't actually believe it!
There are 1303 of me.
I KNEW I should have kept my maiden name.
1303! Wow, that's a lot. I'm sorry :) No wonder you're working with initials...
