Weekend Reviews (I-II)

It's a good thing it has been a slow weekend for reviews...we had a brief breath pf spring this afternoon before the snow returns this evening. 55 degrees! It was like a miracle.

Anyway, here's what I've found this weekend:

In the Times, four writers introduce four classic children's stories.

The Love Curse of the Rumbaughs, by Jack Gantos, is the Times Children's Book of the Week (reviewed by Nicolette Jones).

Mary Harris Russell reviews five new books this week for the Chicago Tribune, including The London Eye Mystery, by Siobhan Dowd.

Charlie Higson reviews Kevin Brooks' s Black Rabbit Summer for the Guardian.

And in the Telegraph, Jacqueline Wilson says children are being robbed of their innocence. (The Scotsman's take.)

There are lots of reviews of children's books in this week's San Francisco Chronicle, including:
  • Susan Faust on Delicious: The Life & Art of Wayne Thiebaud, by Susan Goldman Rubin
  • Susan Faust also reviews How a Princess Smuggled the Secret of Silk Out of China, by Deborah Noyes, illustrated by Sophie Blackall
  • Regan McMahon reviews two bunny books and two piano books as well
Elizabeth Ward also reviews the bunny books and more (ducks! monkeys!) for spring in the Washington Post.

Extra: Young Adult novelist Melissa Young discusses product placement in teen books in the Oregonian.
