Roger Holland reviews Kids' DVDs for PopMatters. I really like the reviews at PopMatters. They're written (well) in a snarky, but not too snarky, style and are not superficial reviews like those you'd see in Newsweek or People.

Let me put this way, the Boohbahs and the Teletubbies don't fare well. Neither do the products "aimed directly at tween hearts and minds," like Zoey 101.

There are some good recommendations, however, including Caillou The Everyday Hero (Holland notes, correctly, that the puppet sequences are not as good as the rest of show), A Boy Named Charlie Brown, and something I've never heard of--Avatar The Last Airbender --Book 1 Water, Volume 2.

Have any of you watched Avatar? Is it any good?
