In any case, I wanted to make sure you caught this series of "writing for children" articles in the Guardian. They are:
- Michael Rosen talks writing for children. (In short: "thinking about your own past, while staying in touch with young people now.")
- Linda Newbery explains that getting published is not easy. (Just in case you thought it was!)
- Linda Newbery and Meg Rosoff (great writers, both) also say that writing picture books is not as easy as it seems. Tell that to Madonna, ladies.
- And there's more: "From idea to story," "characters and viewpoint," "openings," "checklist" (i.e., major editing), and editor David Fickling talks getting out of the slush pile.
